“High Voltage Hawk”…banded

This “light morph” Red-tailed Hawk, Buteo jamaicensis, seen here posing on a power pole, is one of 14 subspecies in North America, all varying subtly in coloration. Somewhere along the line it was caught and banded, hard to see but looks like…220…?? This band helps researchers track where and when these birds travel and helps build our understanding of the life cycle and health of our most popular local raptor. (Click image for larger version)
