Aphids on Poison Hemlock

Conium maculatum is one of the deadliest plants in North America and native to the Mediterranean…also the source of the famous last cup of tea Socrates drank. These “Fennel Aphids” are able to handle the high toxic load of alkaloids in the sap…and evidently this Bushtit doesn’t have a problem nibbling on the aphids despite their primary food source.
