Bullfrogs (and other frogs) will surface among the floating vegetation with only their eyes, nostrils and eardrums positioned just above the waterline where they can detect on-coming threats while remaining hidden. Using their large lungs, air can be inhaled or exhaled to achieve optimal buoyancy.
