Many shorebirds who migrate near and far will look for mudflats to congregate and feed-in during the winter months. These Avocets and Dowitchers (and gulls) flock together in their winter plumage to feed on the smorgasbord of invertebrates, shellfish and plankton to build up their fat reserves before their spring migration and breeding season.
