Water Hyacinth

Pontedera crassipes, also known as “Terror of Bengal” and “Million dollar weed” is a fast growing floating aquatic plant, native to South America and now found throughout the world. Arriving in the US in 1884, it spread quickly on account of its popularity in water gardens, reproducing quickly from runners, fragmentation and seed, it now plays havoc in many freshwater systems.
