Green Water

As seasonal ponds gradually dry down they may become subject to algal blooms. Water volume decreases while nutrients like nitrates and phosphates become more concentrated serving as fertilizer for the growing algae. These warming green pools also become hypoxic as the available dissolved oxygen is depleted which can be a challenge for fish and other aquatic life.
