Chickadees and Sunflower Seeds

These Chestnut-backed Chickadees, poecile rufescens, get all excited when the sunflowers give up their seeds, one study showed one chickadee taking up to 50 seeds per day, the equivalent of a person eating 100 lbs of food. While surely they’re eating their fill, many of these seeds are taken to be stashed in the nooks and crannies of tree bark for later.
