Cyperus eragrostis, also known as “nutgrass, tall nutgrass or umbrella sedge” is an herbaceous perennial that grows from a rhizome and can be found in moist habitats and disturbed areas. Native to the west coast of North America as well as parts of South America it has been invading and naturalizing in other places around the world and can be weedy in wetlands and is known to be a problem in rice fields.
