Amanita calyptroderma, also known as “Coccoli” or “Pacific Amanita” is one of the edible Amanitas…not all are! An important native mycorrhizal member of coniferous and mixed hardwood forests, they’re not only a seasonal edible favorite of humans, they’re also sought after by other creatures; insects, birds and mammals, including our prime suspect…deer.
