Gulf Fritillary

Agraulis vanillae is native to the southern Gulf states and Mexico and has been making its way into California since the early 1900’s. One of our only non-native butterfly species, researchers are tracking the range expansion relative to climate change. Adults may visit many plants for nectar, but the larvae rely on passionflower as a host plant.
