Velvet Ant

Dasymutilla aureola or “Cow Killers” are actually a kind of wasp that can deliver repeated painful stings. This female has no wings while the males have wings and fly around searching for females. The larvae of velvet ants are ectoparasites that attach to and slowly feed off of other bees and solitary wasps.
