American Dog Tick

Dermacentor variabilis, also known as a “wood tick” is not known to be a vector of Lyme’s disease but can transmit Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Tularemia . This male has positioned itself up on a leaf blade where he’ll wait with his first pair of legs reaching out ready to grab on to any passing mammal, bird, reptile or amphibian.
