Woodpecker nest

Acorn woodpeckers, like other woodpeckers, carve out cavities in trees to lay their eggs and raise their young. These cavities can serve as nesting sites for years and are often utilized by other species. Their name derives from their industrious habit of collecting, curing and storing acorns (photo at bottom).
