Celebrating and Caring for the Land

Three Barleys

Hordeum brachyantherum or “Meadow Barley” is our lovely native perennial, most often found in wet meadows…some of the prettiest grass stands you’ll find.
Hordeum murinum or “Foxtail Barley” is a European import that who’s seeds are notorious for getting stuck in the fur of animals. There are horrible stories of these seeds working their way into the noses, eyes and feet of our four legged friends.
Hordeum marinum spp. gussoneanum or “Mediteranean Barley” is another non-native which can be quite invasive in wet or dry disturbed areas.
