Sentinel Quail

While the rest of the covey scuttles around on the ground foraging for seeds, bugs, etc. one individual stands guard on a point of prominence. From there they either send comforting clucks of “all is well” or a variety of alarm calls that can either communicate a threat from above (ie. hawk) or threat from the ground (ie. cat).
